Dr Ewen Cameron is a Consultant Gastroenterologist. His NHS practice is based at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge with his private practice based both at the Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital and the Nuffield Health Cambridge Hospital.

His main clinical interests are in the endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal disease.  He has particular expertise in colonoscopy and bowel cancer screening.  He is accredited to perform colonoscopy as part of the National Bowel cancer screening programme (one of only a small handful of colonoscopists in the area), the Clinical lead for both the Cambridge Bowel cancer screening centre and the Endoscopy Unit at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, an assessor of colonoscopy competence for the national Bowel cancer screening programme, an assessor for JAG (the national quality assurance body for endoscopy units) and regularly teaches on the regional colonoscopy training programme in Norwich.  In addition to his local role, he provides a regional service for the removal of large pre-cancerous polyps and balloon enteroscopy (a technique for passing endoscopes deep into the small bowel).  His main current research interests are the development of improved tests for bowel cancer screening and improvements in the detection of pre-cancerous polyps at colonoscopy.
In addition to his areas of specialist expertise, Dr Cameron provides a comprehensive general Gastroenterology service including for patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD – ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease), dyspepsia and dysphagia (gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, ulcers, oesophageal and gastric cancer – he lectures about these conditions to University of Cambridge undergraduates).
